STUDYING
FOR THE CLEP EXAMS
CLEP Exams are scheduled by the College Board that administers the
SAT. For more information on where to take the CLEP Exams and the
CLEP Test Schedule, go to http://www.collegeboard.com.
1. The first step in taking a CLEP exams is to identify your
subject. Will you take algebra, english, western civilization
history, American history or another CLEP subject. You must
determine the test to be taken before taking the next step.
2. Collect your materials.
There may be a CLEP Study Guide published to
help you study for whatever CLEP exam you've chosen. These books
are helpful in giving you practice in answer questions for the actual
CLEPS. CLEP study guides do not always provide all the information
you need to pass the CLEP exam for that subject. You will need to
ALSO find a college text book on the subject CLEP you want to
take.
For instance, if you are taking the
American History CLEP, then look for the text books that are used at
some colleges for that college course and see if you can find an older,
used edition of the text book for a few dollars CLICK

3. Learn the vocabulary words - Turn to the back of the
text book and review the glossary. Become familiar with the terms
before you read the chapters.
4. Read the text book chapters and
make a vocabulary list for yourself. Make sure that you know your
vocabulary words BEFORE moving on to the next chapter.
5. Write down the names of
important people and events that happen in each chapter. Label a
paper with the chapter number and then start listing 1, 2, 3, 4,
etc. and list everything.
6. Write down important concepts or
cycles. If there is a process or cycle, make sure you know each
step in the process or cycle. Memorize it!
7. Take practice tests to help
yourself become accustomed to analyzing questions, eliminating wrong
answers and selecting the correct answer. Successful test taking
has a lot to do with clearly identifying "WRONG ANSWERS",
eliminating them and then selecting from the remaining possible correct
answers.
