Top Ten Things You'll Need to Do to Skip High School and Enter College

1.  Get good grades in the school you're in now.  If you're really smart, but have less than great grades, unfortunately there may be little you will be able to do to convince a college that you can do college-level work.

2.  You'll need great testing scores on your school aptitude tests.  Colleges want to see consistency of excellence.

3.  Take the SATs and do well.  You can take the SATs at any age.  Just sign up. You don't need permission from anyone at school.

4.  Take some CLEP exams and do well on them.

5.  You'll also need supportive parents who won't take 'no' for an answer.  Adults who rarely listen to kids, at least respect other adults.  A supportive parent who knows how to research and present documented information is a must.

6.  You'll need a supportive college administration.  If one college is not supportive, try another!  However, you MUST have your paperwork in order BEFORE you approach any college.

7.  The superintendent of schools doesn't have to be on your side, but you may need him or her to sign off on your acceleration.  He or she will be concerned with "attendance policies".  Look in your state education statutes and find out what the "attendance" laws are in your state.

8.  You'll need to be willing to put in a lot of hours of studying.

9.  You'll need to be able to shut out the negative comments from people who say you're making a mistake or you're missing your childhood.  People who have not gone through the process don't understand, and can't give qualified advice, only opinions.  I don't regret one second of my early college experience and once I got my degree I was free to have fun!  More fun than I would have had sitting in a classroom experiencing my childhood.

10.  Lastly, you'll need the overwhelming desire to accomplish something out of the ordinary and stick to it.  You must be able to do all of your work without your parents pushing you to do it.  If you can do that, you're halfway to success.
